A Father to You

God is a Father and He is desperate to find His family and enjoy being with His kids. He did something that not many fathers would do – out of love for us He sent His only Son to come and show us the way back home to our Heavenly Father. You can read more about this story by clicking here.

Does it feel as if your world has fallen apart?

Has everything started to go wrong?

God, the perfect Father, knows all about you! He knows what you feel, what you think, what you like; He even knows the number of hairs on your head! In fact He knew all about you before you were born and He knows what you will do every day. He wants you to get to know Him. He wants to be a Father to you. He really desires to give you the love you have never known, a love that your earthly father may not been able to give you.

All of us need to be loved, affirmed and valued. Too often the only praise we get is if we do something well and even then it may come with strings attached or be conditional in some way.

Thankfully, many children still grow up in families where there are loving relationships and caring parents, where there is encouragement and affirmation, where home is a place of comfort and rest.

But too many people grow up with low self esteem, with no idea of how valued they are. They may feel an emptiness inside and the sense of being a failure. There can be pressure of work, college or exams, the barrage of images from the media and the struggle to compete with peers.

Sadly, many young people grow up in families where there is anger, tension, breakdown of relationships, separation and divorce. Too often they assume that they are to blame, that everything is their fault. They may feel a sense of despair.

This generation is crying out for fathers who will love them unconditionally. The popular songs, sung by people who seemingly have it all, say things like:

“Father, Father, Father help us, send some guidance from above – Where is the Love?”

“Never dreamed that he would be gone from me - - ‘cause I’d love, love, love to dance with my father again”

“I get so emotional daddy, every time I think of you, there is no one else like my daddy”

Whatever your family has been like there is someone who cares for you and loves you for who you are. It does not matter what you do, what you are like or what you think about yourself. God is the perfect Father and He loves you for being you!

He offers you a place where you do not have to strive for acceptance or work hard to make a name for yourself. The emptiness inside can be replaced by a love that satisfies your deepest longings. Whether your father was absent or not, you can find a Father who will never leave you, never let you down nor leave you feeling alone again. God is by very nature a Father and He wants to be a Father to you.

If you already know Jesus personally but do not know God as your Father and you would like to come home to Him, this simple prayer will help you. The exact words don’t really matter. It is what is in your heart that counts.

Dear Father

Thank you that you are MY Father. Thank you that you have loved me since before I was born and that you know all about me.

Father, I want to come home today and experience your unconditional love. Thank you that you are a Father to me and today I receive that love into my heart. I choose to receive you as my true Father and I come to you and ask you to hold me in your arms every day. Thank you that you accept me for just being me and I don’t have to strive to be anything else.

Father, show me your love in a real way today and everyday.

In Jesus name,     Amen.
