I Will be a Father to You ... The Journey

Our lives are a journey, a series of events that appear to take place whether we like it or not. We are seeking for something that all too often eludes us!

We devote our time and energy to the things we do. We strive to achieve position, status or wealth. We want to be recognised and accepted by friends or work colleagues. This visible part of our lives  - about our work, family, friends or even church – often creates a false impression of who we really are.

All too often these events form the answer to one of life’s essential questions ‘Who Am I?’

But is this the real journey….

….or have we lost sight of another journey, the journey of our heart? It is to our heart that God speaks. He woos us and draws us to Him. His is the voice of the One who gave everything for us, who calls us into an intimate relationship with Him. He is, by His very nature, a Father and He wants to be a Father to You!

This journey, not seen, but certainly more real than the journey of our external lives, asks the same question ‘Who Am I?’

Who am I? One question but two very different answers! Which way will we choose?

When we seek the answer in the external journey we are satisfied for a while but then something changes: our boss expects more of us, we never seem to make the mark, we hit a personal crisis, our family goes through difficulties, we get on a treadmill. We can never seem to find what we are looking for. Our heart is not satisfied. Something keeps draining away and we start the search again.

But when we listen to the voice calling our heart we find something different. We find a Father who loves us with a perfect love, a love that we have never known, a love that will not leave us or let us down. It is a love that accepts us for who we are rather than what we do or achieve.

The story of the Bible is of a Father who has lost His family and who is desperate to get it back again.

God is a Father. He has always been a Father and He really wants to be a FATHER TO YOU!

“How gladly would I treat you like sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation. I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn from following me”   (Jeremiah 3.19)
