MADE TO GIVE HIM PLEASURE
It is amazing how often we read familiar verses and yet miss out on the complete truth which they contain. The above verse is one of those that has become so familiar that we sometimes miss the full depth that it contains. Our picture is of a content God viewing the first five days of creation and being satisfied. We forget the sixth day when he made the crowning glory of his creation. Us!

Everything that God made he did in order to bring him pleasure. That includes you and me! Colossians 1:16 tells us:

“For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.” (NIV)

Everything our Father created was made because he wanted to! We were made to enjoy fellowship and friendship with him. We were made to bring him pleasure. God did not have to make the human race; we are told that he was complete in himself before the beginning of time. Yet, as a loving Father he wanted to share the beauty of the relationship enjoyed by the Trinity with us.

In the Old Testament there is a cry from the Father’s heart that yearns for relationship with his children.

Isaiah 1:2 “I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me”.
Jeremiah 3:19 “How gladly would I treat you like sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation. I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following me.”

The cry of the Father’s heart was fulfilled in Jesus. God so loved the world that he sent Jesus in order to buy us back.

I know that many people find it hard to relate to God as Father. Maybe they view him as distant, angry or judgemental. Our inadequacies, fears or insecurities prevent us coming close to him. Our guilt or sin can trap us into thinking we have to earn his favour. There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out all fear. Whatever you may feel like as you are reading this, the truth is that you bring pleasure to your Heavenly Father. He made you because he enjoys your company! Enjoy his!
