IN TIMES OF CHANGE
In the UK recently there have been a lot of programmes on TV and on the radio about events which took place in 1968. It was a year that saw great change in our societies and culture: student riots, sexual liberation, civil rights and of course the death of Martin Luther King. Over the last week we have also seen changes in the political map of the country; across the Atlantic the US is gearing itself for its election and in Africa there are several countries in the insecure aftermath of an election.

In times of change there is often a sense of insecurity. How do we feel when relationships change? What about change at work, in the church or in our families? There can be that unsettling feeling which might make us ask ‘What will happen to me?’ or ‘How will I cope?’ Things or relationships that we have learned to trust may be dismantled; supporting structures may be taken away.

Our first response at such times of uncertainty may be to look at our own resources and question whether we have what it takes.  

But there is one thing that never changes. “The unfailing love of the LORD never ends!” (Lamentations 3:22 NLT) It is in Him that we have hope and it is in Him that our future lies. It is the certainty of His love that holds us through times of change or uncertainty. Anything else we put our trust in will not last and will fade away. His love really is from “everlasting to everlasting”.
